Wahine Anglers are Getting Ready for Some Action!

Kona, Hawaii – The Seventeenth Annual Huggo’s Wahine Tournament is the largest ladies bill fish tournament in the Pacific, and is slated for Saturday the 28th of July along the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Huggo’s Wahine Tournament is a ladies only marlin fishing tournament, held annually as a fundraiser for non-profit community organizations. This year, Family Support Hawaii Website:, will be the beneficiary.  Over the past 16 years over $100,000.00 has been donated to charity.

The teams are competing for cash and prizes, and the majority of the marlins caught will be released for points, and the total points will determine the outcome.

Huggo's Wahine Fishing Tournament July 28th

The Huggo’s annual Wahine Tournament is July 28, 2012 and all women anglers are invited to participate.  Entry fee is $400 per team of up to 4 anglers.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the teams with the biggest marlin/billfish weighing more than 300 pounds.  There will also be a tuna, ono, and mahi mahi category that will receive a trophy prize for the largest catch.

This year’s theme is “safari” and prizes and cash will be awarded to the best decorated boat and team costumes.

There will be a registration party and briefing on July 27, 2012 at 6 pm at Huggo’s On the Rocks.  Fishing will take place all day Saturday the 28th, and on Sunday the 29th the awards presentation will also be held at On the Rocks, which will include entertainment from 8-10 pm.

The relay team (Matt, swim; Justin, run; and Eric, stand up paddle board) took 3rd place honors, while Huggo’s server Nate Grocholski competed individually, clinching 1st place in his 30-44 age group.

Team Huggo's takes 3rd Place in the 12th Annual Kuki'o Challenge

On June 3, 2012 the 12th Annual Kuki’o Challenge took place in Kailua-Kona.  Kuki’o Resort, a private oceanfront club and residential community hosts this challenge each year, and the Huggo’s family was happy to participate not only in the race, but also as a sponsor.

The team challenge consisted of a .5 mile swim, 3 mile run, and 4 mile paddle, or 2 mile paddleboard/stand-up paddleboard.

Team Huggo’s Relay Tram took 3rd place in the event!
