Weʻre celebrating summer with its new Wine on the Lanai monthly wine pairing dinner debuting Wednesday, May 31 at 6:30 pm. Huggo’s Wine on the Lanai summer dinner series promises to be a fun, interactive coursed dinner, pairing wines from the regions of Spain, South Africa and the Sonoma/Napa region selected under the expertise of Pat Okubo, the youngest Master Sommelier in North America.
South Africa is the focus for May’s Wine on the Lanai. Huggo’s Executive Chef Alan Heap will create a memorable sunset dining experience to complement each wine pairing. Courses include Chakalaka and Pap, a traditional South African dish; African adobo rubbed tuna steak and Cape Malay chicken curry with yellow rice. Master Sommelier Okubo has sourced some of the region’s best wines to accompany each course:
• Secateurs, Chenin Blanc, Swartland 2016
• De Wetshof, Limestone Hill, Chardonnay, Robertson 2016
• Badenhorst, Family Red, Swartland 2014
• Delaire Graff, Botmaskop, Stellenbosch 2014
Pat Okubo’s outstanding wine industry credentials make him a perfect collaborator for Huggo’s special events. He is a Master Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Certified Wine Educator (CWE), and Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS). Currently, Okubo is the Fine Wine Specialist and Wine Educator for Young’s Market Hawaii.
