Congratulations to Kailua-Kona’s very own Suzanne Gustavson for being named the Top Tagging Angler for Spearfish in the Pacific Ocean by The Billfish Foundation (TBF) this month. With thousands of participants taking part in the foundation’s international competition, Suzanne is a member of an awsome, elite group of anglers! The honor recognizes Suzanne’s strong commitment to the catch and release of billfish and her contribution to worldwide conservation efforts; it also places her in the company of other leading captains and anglers scattered around the globe. Well done Suzanne! According to the Foundation, participation in its Tag and Release Program contributes greatly toward the collection of data used by scientists and decision makers to monitor billfish population stocks, movements, growth rates and other factors critical to better understanding the species. Huggo’s is the proud sponsor of the annual Huggo’s Wahine (billfish) Tournament held each July and benefitting the Family Support Services of West Hawaii — the 2011 event was the 16th annual.
