Huggo’s Welcomes New Art Gallery to Hawaii Island

Huggo’s is thrilled to give a shout out to our friend – artist Jason Wright – on the opening of his amazing Wright Gallery in Kailua-Kona. The gallery brings significant contemporary fine art to Hawaii Island, representing primarily important emerging and mid-career artists from throughout the U.S. and the world.

According to Jason, “Our focus is to feature contemporary art in a relaxed and friendly environment. To better benefit the collector, we intentionally keep our roster of artists smallso we maintain close, personal relationships with all the artists we represent.”

He says the gallery’s vision is personal – demanding the work to be stimulating and moving – a visual voice that is relevant to the times in which we live.  Jason’s work, along with that of 13 contemporary artists, is featured and depicts dramatic landscapes through the use of geometric lines and complex perspectives. Critics say, with his signature hard-edge style, Wright’s work is at its heart a study of the beauty of isolation.

“I paint what I see. You can stand anywhere in the world, look in any direction, and you will see hard vs. soft. The terra with its hard geometric lines against the sky and its fluidity.”  Wright studied Painting and Graphic Design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. He is an accomplished mix media painter, as well as a medaled action sports athlete; he lives in Kona.

The Wright Gallery is located at 73-5590 Kauhola Street in the new industrial area (near Costco) and is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment.

E komo mai (welcome) to the Wright Gallery from all of us at Huggo’s– we look forward to welcoming more and more exciting galleries and small businesses to Kailua-Kona.
