Huggo’s restaurant in the heart of Kailua-Kona was one of the host restaurants for this month’s “Red Dress Run,” hosted by the Kona Coast Hash House Harriers. Now a global event that started in San Diego in August 1988, the run honors the legacy of Donna Rhinehart aka The Lady in Red.
In 2004, Kona joined the world in celebrating Donna’s belief that random acts of kindness “are simply what are expected of all of us”. Since then, the event takes place here monthly on the second to last Saturday of the month, benefiting a number of local charities.
In the words of Huggo’s General Manager, Greg Peterson, “Everyone was having fun – lots of women and men all in red dresses running though the streets of Kona, stopping to enjoy drinks at the host restaurants along the route and then back out on the course in their heels and pumps”!

The runs encourage fitness and charity to others, according to the organizers. They also emphasize Rule #1: NO drinking and driving – arrange for a driver after the event!
