While we know every night at Huggo’s in Kailua-Kona is special, Wednesday evening was magic! With the waterfront dining areas packed with kama’aina (long-time residents) and visitors alike, diners were treated to one of the more spectaular sunsets in weeks and a fabulous show by our annual guests — Humpback whales from Alaska!

Just as the sun dipped below the horizon, a mother and calf made a series of joyful leaps (full-body breaches) just off-shore. While we can’t promise repeat performances every night, most of these gentle giants will be enjoying Hawaii Island’s balmy waters for another two months and Huggo’s and our sister restaurant On the Rocks provide front row seats for one of nature’s best shows. We look forward to welcoming you soon…you never know who might show up!
Among the regulars in the “audience” Wednesday, one of Kailua-Kona’s most beloved — and uber-talented — artists Cindy Coats whose gallery (The Cindy Coats Gallery) is located just north of us on Ali’i Drive (just across from the Kailua-Kona Pier) and it’s on our “not-to-be-missed” list.
