Pre-Race Day Fun in Kailua-Kona

Some 2000+ athletes are here on Hawaii Island to compete in the 2013 Ironman World Championship on Saturday, October 12. But it’s not all serious training for these incredible athletes as race day approaches.

Thursday morning one of the week’s most outrageous and fun events took place again this year — the 2013 Kona Underpants Run. Initially put together decades ago as a poke at European athletes who not only trained on Hawaii Island’s roadways and highways in the skimpiest of briefs, but also comfortably roamed the streets of Kailua-Kona and its restaurants and stores post training!

Nearly 1,000 people turned out on Thursday – triathletes and their families and friends – to flaunt their stuff in the short jog along Ali’i Drive, all of this for charity!

Oh! And yes,  we were there, cameras in hand to capture some of the wacky sights to share with you!

Enjoy!
